So, it went well. I started off by bringing her some flowers, ones that looked much like these ones:

There were three of the red-orange ones and three white ones. Turns out daisies are her favorite, too. Glad I did my homework.

So after we spent a bit trying to figure out a vase arrangement for them (with the help of her mom), we went off to the restaurant. Since Stacy had given us a gift card to the Olive Garden to start things off, we went there. It was delightful. I don't think we actually finished off any component of the meal, so we got some nice leftovers as well. Lots of good talking with none of the horrible awkwardness that accompanies going out with someone you don't really know.

After that, we went back to her house for a while. We sat on her couch for an hour or so, talking and playing with her cats. Well, one of them. The other one was terrified of me. Eventually, I had to get going, so we hugged and I left and began calling the various people who had threatened me with bodily harm if I didn't update them after it ended.

I guess I'm not too good at describing it, because it really sounds boring when it really wasn't. Kelly is a really sweet and lovely girl, and the whole night just felt right. Part of it is that we've known each other forever and we've been attracted to each other for a few years, so it's sort of a logical evolution. Which reminds me of this exchange I had with Kate:

Dave: [My date with a Kelly is] sort of an evolution, in a sense.

Kate: but it's also like creationism because you have been pals for 6,000 years!

Kate: GROUP HUG

I'm just so happy now. I've spent so long bemoaning the fact that no one wants me, when in fact the perfect person wanted me all along. Thank God for Stacy, because if it were left up to the two of us, none of this would have happened. Also, apparently, Kelly thought my movie thing was really sweet; I guess it did come out right.

So I'm going to see her again Friday when she's babysitting for some friends of ours; after the kids go to bed, I'll come over with some movies and we'll watch those so she's not bored to tears watching MTV.

I am the luckiest guy I know.
